Achieving gender equality and empowering women is not only the right thing to do but is a critical ingredient in the fight against extreme poverty, hunger and climate change. The International Day of Rural Women (IDRW), established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 62/136 of 18 December 2007, is celebrated annually on 15 October to recognize the critical role and contributions of rural women in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
International Day of Rural Women is a global event that recognizes the vital role of women in rural areas and brings awareness to the unique challenges they face. From farmers and entrepreneurs to community leaders, rural women play an essential part in sustaining communities and advancing economic development. This day highlights their contributions while advocating for greater equality and support.
