Organic farming is an old-age agricultural practice or technique that aims to use chemical-free products to maintain the overall integrity of the crops. It is also known as biological farming or ecological farming. Out of 2,52,312.07 ha area, under organic farming, 1434 clusters covering area of 52,200 ha have been formed as organic cluster under PKVY in the state of Odisha. The organic farming market is projected to grow at a significant rate due to consumer demand for chemical-free food, environmental concerns, government incentives, and awareness of sustainable farming practices.
Agriculture, the backbone of Sundargarh’s predominantly tribal population, is witnessing a new chapter with the introduction of aromatic and non-aromatic paddy cultivation by adopting organic methods. Earlier, farmers used chemical fertilisers and pesticides for a good harvest. The new method of cultivation has so far been undertaken on 5,300 hectares of land across Lephripara, Balisankara, Bargaon, Rajgangpur, Subdega, Bonaigarh, and Gurundia blocks.
