Odisha’s Agri Exported Of Colocasia And Green Papaya To Ireland

For the first time, farmers from Dhenkanal have successfully exported Colocasia (Arbi) and green papaya to Ireland, placing Odisha firmly on the global agricultural map. This milestone, led by the Saptasajya Agro Producer Company, reflects the power of grassroots enterprise, institutional support, and the unwavering spirit of our farmers. Colocasia (Arbi) is the tuberous root of the taro plant, while green papaya is the unripe fruit of the papaya tree. Both are used as ingredients in various Asian and Indian dishes.

Backed by the Directorate of Horticulture, with support from the Gates Foundation and Palladium, this initiative has not only unlocked international markets but also delivered 40%–62% higher returns to our cultivators. Green papaya is known for its use in salads like Som Tum, and colocasia is often prepared as fried or steamed rolls known as Patra or Alu Wadi. Recently, these two produce items were successfully exported from Odisha, India, to Irela‎nd.
