CM Calls For Biodiversity Protection On International Day

Marking the International Day for Biological Diversity, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi underscored the state’s ecological wealth, calling for renewed efforts to preserve its rich biodiversity. Odisha is home to some of India’s most vital ecological hotspots. Bhitarkanika National Park, located in Kendrapara district, is recognized as the second-largest mangrove ecosystem in the country.

Chilika is a key wintering ground for over a million migratory birds and sustains more than 200 species of fish. It is also one of the few remaining habitats globally for the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin, making it a focal point for conservation initiatives and ecotourism. As Odisha continues to balance development with conservation, the Chief Minister’s message resonates as a call to action to protect the natural heritage of the state.
