Precision Farming

Introduction: Precision farming is an improved method of conducting agricultural practices which deals with the concepts based on observing, measuring and responding to inter as well as intra variability in crops. The main aim of this type of farming is to describe decision support system for the proper and effective management of crops. This innovative idea of farming can be practiced due to the advent of GPS and GNSS. In this system analysing the soil organic matter content like nitrogen content, moisture, etc, plays a very important role.

Description: Precision farming in agriculture is based purely on applications of precise and correct amount of inputs like pesticides, water, fertilizer and etc. Precision farming helps to optimise the amount of inputs and decrease the fertiliser, pesticides and insecticides being applied during cultivation. This further decreases the input costs and the farmers can garner a better profit. Also the detection of insect and pest is much faster and precise. This saves the crop from being damaged. Precise irrigation and drainage practices also help in saving water.

Conclusion: The benefits of precision farming can be summed up in the following points:
@its eco-friendly and profitable
@water conservation
@its more effective and efficient.
So, practice of precision farming in our country should be given a boost, which will help in conserving our resources and maximising our agricultural output.
