International Tea Day is observed annually on May 21. The day aims to raise awareness about the cultural and economic significance of the beverage. Originating from NorthEast India, tea has been an important part of Indian culture and society for centuries. Today, the tea industry in India is a major contributor to the country’s economy and employs millions of people. International Tea Day is dedicated to the workers of the tea industry.
Tea consumption can bring health benefits and wellness due to the beverage’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and weight loss effects. It also has cultural significance in many societies. The Day will promote and foster collective actions to implement activities in favour of the sustainable production and consumption of tea and raise awareness of its importance in fighting hunger and poverty.
