Centre Approves Procurement of 2.5 Lakh Tonnes of Mangoes From Karnataka

In a major relief for mango farmers in southern Karnataka, the Union Government has approved the procurement of up to 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes at a rate of ₹1,616 per quintal under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the 2025–26 marketing season. Under the Market Intervention Scheme on mango for the marketing year 2025–26 in the state of Karnataka, the maximum quantity of 2,50,000 tonnes at the rate of ₹1,616 per quintal has been approved.

The approval under the MIS is expected to provide financial stability to farmers, enabling them to recover from market losses and plan effectively for the next crop cycle. The scheme allows state governments to partner with the Centre to procure perishable crops when prices fall below a threshold, thereby protecting farmers from market volatility. With mango being a key horticulture crop in Karnataka, this timely intervention not only offers immediate relief but also restores confidence in institutional support mechanisms for agriculture.
