Millets known as ancient crops from the stable of indigenous communities of odisha. Potential of Millets is now being recognised globally. Odisha Millete Mission is implemented in close coordination with mission Shakti department, tribal development department, cooperation department,WCD department,S&ME department,food supplies department,MSME department etc. Under the program,each block in the state needs to cover at least 1000 hector for millete production in 5 yrs .
As the country is all set to celebrate 2023 as the international year of millets, Odisha University of agriculture and technology (OUAT) had developed a little millete varitey with enhanced productivity and quality. The new variety Kaling Suan 18 was recently released by the central variety release committee.
