India has reported a significant increase in the sowing of paddy and pulses, thanks to a robust monsoon. Paddy sowing increased by 16% to 39 million hectares, and pulses sowing increased by 7% to 12 million hectares as of 23 August. The expansion in rice cultivation underscores an emphasis on boosting the production of this staple. The pulse varieties include tur, urad, and moong–all staples of Indian kitchens.
Kharif sowing has reached 1,065.08 lakh hectares, marking a 2% increase from last year, with most crops showing promising growth. Oilseeds sowing has increased slightly to 188.37 lh this season compared to 187.36 lh last year. Paddy growth means that paddy has been sown on 98% of its normal area, signaling a promising season for rice production. The area under pulses has expanded to 122.16 lh, up from 115.55 lh the previous year.
