The Government of India launched a new central sector scheme,” Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi” in order to augment the income of the small and marginal farmers. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released the 17th instalment of about Rs 20,000 crore under PM-KISAN and distributed certificates to over 30,000 self-help groups known as Krishi Sakhis in Varanasi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi is the largest direct benefit transfer scheme in the world.
Agriculture has always been a priority for the PM in his last two tenures. He took several key decisions in the interest of farmers. After taking oath as PM, Modi ji first signed a file related to the release of the 17th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme. Modi emphasised that agriculture will play a big role in making India the third largest economy. Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy and farmers are its soul.
