Marigold farming is a profitable and self-reliant venture, particularly in areas like Kalahandi, where it’s become a source of livelihood and income for farmers. A farmer in Kalahandi district has become an example for others to emulate after his successful journey to self-reliance through the cultivation of marigold flowers, leaving aside traditional crops. Muniram Patel, a progressive farmer from Mukundpur village under Dhamanpur panchayat in Golamunda block, has carved out a unique identity through marigold farming.
Marigold farming offers a viable alternative to traditional crops, especially in areas facing climate challenges, as marigolds are more adaptable to changing conditions and require less water. Marigold farming is also empowering women in areas like Sambalpur, where they have successfully expanded their ventures and explored direct sales to larger markets, symbolizing financial success and personal growth.
