India is seeking to integrate scalable food security interventions into existing government programmes while promoting local crop varieties. Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi emphasized promoting nutritious local varieties of rice and millets alongside fortified cereals, signalling a shift towards indigenous crop promotion.
India’s agriculture ministry and UN-WFP, focuses on four key outcomes: enhancing food-based social protection systems, promoting diverse and nutritious diets, empowering women financially, and building climate-resilient food systems. India, the world’s most populous country, faces significant challenges in ensuring food security for its 1.4 billion people.
