A cashew processing unit is a facility where raw cashew nuts are cleaned, cooked, shelled, dried, peeled, graded, and packaged to produce edible cashew kernels. Under Mukhyamantri Krisi Udyog Yojana, Mrutyunjaya Patri from Nandailo, Cuttack set up a cashew processing unit. Timely support and facilitation by the department led to smooth execution and subsidy release, showcasing the impact of rural industrial promotion.
These units can range from small, manual operations to large, automated factories. The process involves multiple steps to separate the edible kernel from the hard outer shell and remove the testa. Indian cashew process industry started with family workshops of small scale and as time goes on, it gradually developed into labour intensive industry of high organization. Due to the steady growth of world demand for cashew nuts, cashew process industry has become a high – profit industry.
