Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a significant allocation of Rs 1.52 lakh crore for agriculture and allied sectors for the fiscal year 2024-25. A National Cooperation Policy will be framed to fast-track the growth of the rural economy and generate employment opportunities. Agricultural research will be transformed to focus on enhancing productivity and developing climate-resilient crop varieties.
Sitharaman also announced a through review of the current agricultural research framework, aimed at ensuring that Indian agriculture not only adapts to but thrives in the face of evolving climatic challenges. A comprehensive review of the farm research setup will be undertaken to advance the development of climate-resilient crop varieties.
