Hon’ble President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the Bharat Ratna Award at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. Eminent Scientist MS Swaminathan conferred with the award posthumously. Swaminathan’s daughter, Nitya Rao, received the award on behalf of her father. Dr. Swaminathan’s pioneering work Green Revolution has transformed the agriculture scenario across India, including in Odisha.
Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was an Indian Agronomist, Agricultural scientist, Geneticist, Administrator and Humanitarian. Swaminathan was a global leader of the green revolution. He has been called the main architect of the green revolution in India for his leadership and role in introducing and further developing high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice.
